Welcome to the 4th Battalion

The 4th Battalion, 2nd Brigade of the South Carolina State Guard is based in Williamston, SC. and serves the citizens of South Carolina with emphasis on Anderson and Abbeville counties. The 4th Battalion is commanded by Major John Shands and it's mission is to support all military operations as required, in the Military District of South Carolina. It is also charged with delivering a fully capable level of preparedness and response to protect the lives and property of the people of South Carolina during times of emergency, such as a terrorist attack or a natural or man-made disaster. It also serves as a force multiplier for the SC Army and Air National Guard

 

The 4th Battalion has a long and proud history of service to the state of South Carolina and that tradition is continued to this day by the men and women which make up the 4th.

Formed in 1670, the South Carolina State Guard is older than the US Army and has a long, illustrious history of service to South Carolina and to the nation. More than 1,500 men and women currently serve in the State Guard.
