The 4th Battalion has a long and proud history of service to the state of South Carolina and that tradition is continued to this day by the men and women which make up the 4th. Formed in 1670, the South Carolina State Guard is older than the US Army and has a long, illustrious history of service to South Carolina and to the nation. More than 1,500 men and women currently serve in the State Guard.
