The Raider Detachment of the South Carolina
State Guard is a small highly trained, multi-purpose force able to be
rapidly deployed to various contingencies throughout South Carolina.
It has both military and civil missions. It's military missions
include reconnaissance and Homeland Security. Additionally, it functions as an opposition force (OPFOR) for deploying National
Guard, Reserve and Active military units. It's civil mission includes assisting with disaster recovery efforts,
search and rescue, and in other emergency
applications.
Similar in concept to the elite U.S. Army Rangers, members of the
Raider Detachment serve with their regular units and share the knowledge
and skills gained from training, subject to recall to the
Raider Detachment as needed.
